Why Passover Matters

The Exodus: God’s Mighty Deliverance

The story of Passover is the foundational story of redemption—God hearing the cries of His people enslaved in Egypt and delivering them with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Through ten miraculous plagues, the parting of the Sea of Reeds, and the institution of the Passover meal, God demonstrated His sovereignty over all the gods of Egypt and His faithfulness to His covenant promises.

Passover (Pesach) is one of the three major Biblical Feasts commanded in Leviticus 23. It has been celebrated by Jewish families for over 3,000 years.

Slavery in Egypt and God’s Promise

For 400 years, the Children of Israel labored under the harsh hand of Pharaoh. But God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He raised up Moses and sent him to Pharaoh with the words that still echo through the generations: “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.” (Exodus 8:1)

The Ten Plagues and the Passover Lamb

When Pharaoh hardened his heart, God sent ten devastating plagues upon Egypt. The final plague—the death of the firstborn—brought Pharaoh to his knees. But God provided a way of escape: the blood of a spotless lamb, applied to the doorposts, caused the angel of death to “pass over” the homes of the Israelites.

Teaching the Exodus Story to Children

God Himself commanded that the Passover story be passed down from generation to generation: “And when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of the Lord’s Passover.’” (Exodus 12:26-27). This activity bundle gives your family a hands-on way to fulfill that command and help your children treasure the story of God’s deliverance.

“And this day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.”
— Exodus 12:14
