A Holy Day Your Children Can Enter
On the tenth day of the seventh month, God told Israel to afflict their souls and do no work—a Sabbath of Sabbaths, the one day a year the high priest entered the Holy of Holies to make atonement for the whole nation. Two goats were brought before the LORD: one offered as a sacrifice, the other sent into the wilderness carrying the sins of the people far away. Ever since, Yom Kippur has been the most solemn and holy day of the year: a day to stop, to fast, to confess, and to be made clean.

The Two Goats: Sin Carried Far Away
In Leviticus 16, Aaron cast lots for two goats. One was offered before Adonai. The other, the scapegoat, was sent into the wilderness carrying the sins of the people. It is a living picture of Psalm 103:12 (TLV): “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
Jonah: A Whole City Turns Back
The whole book of Jonah is read aloud in synagogues every Yom Kippur afternoon. Nineveh, a city that seemed too far gone, turned back to God, and He relented. Children learn the same truth: no one is too far gone to return.
Repentance You Can Practice
Teshuvah means to return. The journal page, the kindness jar, and the make-a-card activity turn “sorry” into action, just as 1 John 1:9 (TLV) promises: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
